Quick Context
We renovated a 1998 Kustom Koach 220 fifth wheel, and what started as a simple cosmetic refresh quickly turned into a much deeper project — as these things often do. The original plan was to stay within a $1,000 budget, but once we uncovered structural issues, we shifted gears into a “let’s do it right” mindset and adjusted accordingly.

What We’d Skip On This RV Renovation Products List
The thermostat isn't easy to set at a precise temperature - there are no numbers on it.
We did not prime the hardware before spray painting so the gold paint has started peeling off the bathroom door handle - prime first!
The outdoor light is incredibly bright, so it's not a great campground light, and is more like a backcountry light.
Otherwise, everything else has been working wonderfully.
Final notes
Every RV renovation looks different, because every rig — and every family — is different. What worked beautifully in our space might not make sense for yours, and that’s okay. Take what fits, leave what doesn’t, and build a space that truly works for the way you travel.
